Privatization is Paramount

What is one thing that all humans cannot live without? What is the one thing that makes us function every single day? While many of you think that Gray’s Anatomy is the answer, water is much more important to your existence and well-being. Now most of you have easy-access running water at your disposal, just sitting in your sink waiting to be used. Others aren’t so lucky. People across the world go without water for days, barely surviving. Whose responsibility is it to give these poor people drinking water? Many would say their government. However, they often are incapable of doing such an action. Because of this, I think that private companies should provide water to people.

First, private companies are constantly developing, and with it develop new and innovative ways to provide drinkable water. Because they want profit, they will do whatever necessary to provide water to the people. Governments have too many responsibilities, and because of this are unable to consistently provide drinking water. What would happen if the government gets overtaken, and a dictator decides not to give out water? Because of this insecurity, privatization of water is a must.

Second, private companies are safer and healthier. Recently, a student conducted an experiment on his school’s drinking fountain water. In it, he discovered fecal matter. This further proves how the government cannot handle the water provision. Private companies, however, are constantly held accountable to their quality of water. If the drinker does not like its water provider, it can simply switch, like a provider can switch from cable to satellite. By losing profit, the company cannot stay in business.

Because of these reasons, it is only logical to allow private companies to control our water supply. We need providers who we can rely on, no matter what.

Agreed: After analyzing risks and benefits from the pirvatization of water, we can say that by just adding regulations to the company, or by assigning supervisors, you can completely remove the risks; making the privatization the best option.

I do also agree with your opinion that private corporations will try to do anything to get their profit. However when it comes to people living with less than a dollar a day, who do you think will pay for the companies?
