H2O For Life

Posted by Jessica Elisberg | March 19, 2008

It all started with one small project: students at Highview Middle School in Minnesota decided to raise money to fund a project in Kenya that would bring water to over 2000 people. They were so successful and so excited by the results that they just couldn't stop, and now we have H2O For Life!

The goal of H2O For Life is to match up schools in the US with schools in developing countries that don't have access to clean water. The schools in the US raise funds to help pay for water projects to deliver safe water to the students and teachers at their partner school. What a great idea! By connecting these schools directly to each other, everyone has an opportunity to learn some really valuable lessons.

Right now, H2O has schools in the US (mostly Minnesota) matched with schools in Kenya, Mozambique, Mali, and Nicaragua. There's great potential for this program to expand all across the US and the world though! Want to see if your school can get involved? Get in touch!

This approach is interesting because it creates the personal connection that you don't get when you donate money to other organizations. I can see how a school to school program like this would likely continue until the the job was done because of the personal interest of citizens to make sure that progress was made. Great work!

The challengesof food security in poorest countries will course driver of conflict. Its an indcator of extreme poverty in developing countries.we need to push the concern till we reach global consensus on resolution to food crisis. The hardest kit countries are conflict affected area.

I agree with Sarah. This is an awesome idea. In addition to being beneficial to the school receiving the water funding, it creates a personal connection. By creating this connection, people will feel way more involved and are more likely to continue international service.

The students at Highview Middle School had an excellent idea. I love that this program allows one school to help another on an individual basis.
