Global Debate Showcase

Posted by Elisa Lai | May 13, 2010

Dear Global Debaters,

Thank you for putting forth all the effort in creating comprehensive adaptation plans, creative video PSAs, outstanding service projects, and other Global Debate events! Every day we are very excited to see these project submissions and look forward to seeing more.

In the meantime, we would like to share some of the excellent work that we have seen so far. For those of you who are curious about what other schools are doing, we offer you this opportunity to peek.

Video PSAs

We have been seeing many Video PSAs on the Global Debate’s YouTube Group. Here are some select videos to share with you:

Lindale High School: I Can Help the World in 2050 If I Try

Calvary Baptist Day School: PSA: Global Adaptation 101

Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy: Empowering Women

For more Video PSAs, please see Global Debate Youtube Group.

Service Projects

Calvary Baptist Day School: Gown Sale for Orphans in Kitale, Kenya

One of Calvary Baptist Day School’s service projects is to raise money for an orphanage in Kenya to build a rainwater collection system by auctioning second-hand prom dresses at a marginal price ($10~$30). To accomplish this project, three other high schools and several stores in the community helped in donating dresses. With the combined effort of Calvary’s Global Debate team, the project raised about $3,200 in total. We are very happy to see that this service project not only entitles the global debate theme this year, climate change adaptation, but it also creates a positive impact not limited to the local community but extended to an international level.

More information: see press coverage on this service project.
