Spring Global Debates Wrap-up!

Posted by Jessica Mariglio | May 21, 2009

One big “congratulations” goes out to all the schools that have participated in the Global Debates this year. It was a particularly competitive year, and an amazing effort was made from all contestants. The winners span from all over the world, including Moldova, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Korea, Mongolia, and the United States.

I had the distinct and wonderful opportunity to read/listen to/watch all of the incoming submissions, and I can whole-heartedly say that I am really impressed by the level of dedication on behalf of each and every one of the schools.  It’s been a really inspirational experience working with everyone during the spring debate season.

It’s important to remember that the points aren’t really the point of participating in this contest. The point is what you’re doing, and how you’re working to spread the message about taking care of the Earth.  You don’t have to wait for the Global Debates to roll around to make an impact: taking care of the planet and doing your part to slow climate change are things you can and should do every day.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be highlighting some of my favorite submissions, service projects and blog entries from this competition.  I think everyone can agree that the future looks bright with all these young activists and leaders on our side.
