Green Transportation
John Kraus is a junior at Carleton College in Minnesota. John grew up on an organic farm, so sustainability has been a part of his life for a long time. At Carleton, he is a student sustainability assistant, a student naturalist, and an avid mushroom hunter. This spring he will be promoting sustainable study abroad programs and edible landscaping, as well as working with the Environmental Advisory Committee to host a campus-wide sustainable transportation fair.

My project has been chugging along. Everything went on hiatus during two weeks of spring break, but we're back on track now. Last night we finished our planning for Earth Week. We decided to push my project (the Transportation Fair) back to late May rather than trying to pull something together on short notice. We have made contact with a transportation committee on an environmental organization in town--they would like to make a presentation during the fair. I have also gotten the College Committee on Student Life involved. They have started discussing student transportation, especially a car-sharing program. The existing vanpool organizers have been doing a good job of soliciting members for a new vanpool. All in all, things are going pretty well. I still need to figure out how to change the student car policy--I think that could be the most substantial benefit created by this event.
